Currently a popular energy source, biomass refers to the weight of biological material from recently living organisms, such as wood. The decision to use biomass to generate electricity is controversial because environmentalists believe it could damage the environment. However, we believe biomass is a much more environmentally friendly option than fossil fuels.
We visited the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland (a community of 350 residents and many thousand workshop visitors every year) and saw the 'biomass boiler' they had installed 2 years prior. They have secured a source of woodchips from a nearby sawmill and were able to reduce their carbon emissions significantly.
